November marked another busy month for The CFO Alliance! We kicked off our Q4 Roundtable Series, Buy, Build & Borrow in 2019 - Enterprise Growth Through Acquisitions, Assets & Alliances, in New York on November 7th. Our featured guest Chris Jones, CFO and Chief Talent Officer at Durante Rentals, shared his view on growth as a function of Risk, Opportunities, and Resources. According to Chris, "Once these three items are all identified and agreed upon, then the growth rates in all areas of your business can be discussed."
After a successful kick-off, we headed back to our home base in the suburbs of Philadelphia for another packed Roundtable. CFO Alliance Global Advisory Board Member and CFO at Campus Apartments, Jim Smith, shared his exciting experiences contributing to the growth of one of the nation's largest providers of on- and off-campus student housing.
We experienced the first snowfall of the season during our Roundtable at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda. Kellie Goldstein, Corporate Controller at k12, shared some words of wisdom with the participants based on her expansive experiences at k12, the Travel Channel and Thomson Reuters: ""The due diligence and integration required for a $1M acquisition is almost as much work as a $100M, go for the big ones!"
The next Roundtable took place in Toronto where Rich Perri, CFO at CFO Ricoh Canada, Inc., a trusted partner of The CFO Alliance, participated as our featured guest, along with their Vice President of Information Technology, Glen Renton. According to Rich, "chasing growth is costly and unsustainable. Intentional growth builds value and a path forward."
This week, we brought the Q4 Series to the West Coast and hosted Roundtables in San Mateo and Orange County. Finance leaders Brian Kerr and Tim Tight contributed to the discussion in San Mateo, touching on a number of growth strategies including joint ventures, strategic alliances, focusing on your target market, and entering new geographies, verticals and channels. Dave Justus, finance leader who led four successful M&A exits was our featured guest for our Roundtable in Orange County. Dave views the CFO as the Chief Growth Officer within the company and attributes adhering to the rule of 40 as a key element to leading successful exits, a popular theme in SaaS businesses.
Next week concludes the in-person Roundtables for the Q4 Series. We will be in Denver on Wednesday, December 5th where Jennifer Pearce, Principal and CFO at AVL Growth Partners will contribute as our featured guest.
